If you are a citizen of a Nordic country, you can freely travel to the Faroe Islands to live, study and work.
If you are a citizen of a Nordic country, you can freely travel to the Faroe Islands to live and work. You do not need a visa, a work permit or a residence permit.
If, on the other hand, you come from a country outside the Nordic region, you must have a work permit and residence permit in order to work in the Faroe Islands.
The Faroe Islands are not a member of the European Union (EU), and so the EU rules on free movement do not apply to the Faroe Islands.
As a foreigner, it is your own responsibility to obtain a work permit if the rules so require.
See the regulations of the Danish Immigration Service on obtaining a work permit in the Faroe Islands for foreigners from non-Nordic countries.
A work and residence permit for the Faroe Islands is not valid for stays in other countries, including Denmark and Greenland.
Your spouse/partner and children aged under 21 are generally also entitled to accompany you. However, your family members must have a visa if they are citizens of a country which has a visa requirement for the Faroe Islands.
If your spouse/partner or child is a citizen of another country, he or she may instead apply for a residence as a family member. You can read more at: nyidanmark.dk.
